In 2012 plantART bespoke was approached by McQueen, a London-based, internationally-renowned florist with the amazing idea of creating a truly spectacular, customised design combining fresh floral arrangements with artificial silver birch trees for Mulberry. This was part of London Fashion Week, one of the most prestigious events of the fashion world and was presented at Claridge’s in London.
This magical, surreal fairy-tale setting for Mulberry’s spring/summer collection was incredible. Two wide arches created by two artificial birch trees each with a canopy of multi-coloured fresh flowers and suspended lizards was designed as a stage-set-like wall decoration at the start of the catwalk.
Here at plantART Bespoke we regularly make customised large artificial blossom trees and artificial floral trees with faux silk flowers. For this project however, we used large synthetic silver birch trees, required to hold the considerably heavier weight of fresh flowers.
An incredible feat of engineering that had to defy the laws of gravity, for these large artificial silver birch trunks, plantART Bespoke designed and manufactured (in collaboration with an expert metalwork fabricator) a very strong, lightweight steel core.
The true ingenuity lay in the design of these semi-trees, as they had to be 100% self-supporting and could not be attached to the floor nor the back wall!
After four months of careful preparation, the whole beautiful display received just 15 minutes exposure to the world’s media!
